Education system in India
What is the point of the current education system in India? We could be pragmatic and give a response that, it is to get a job, have financial security, a good spouse and genetically perfect children and put them into the education system, so the process continues, In short, our education system is to propagate our species.
In 1800, during Industrial revolution British started business in India and they were looking for factory workers and clerks, who knows how to follow instructions, for this Thomas Babington Macaulay was appointed to make a visit to India and form education syllabus in such a way, that Britisher’s needs for worker is fulfilled and till date we are following modified Macaulay’s education forms and it needs changes in such a way that it promotes creativity. The education system should be formulated in such a way that rather than forcing the student to learn all things it should focus on identifying the talent of student and then nourishing it.
India has more than 30 state boards and impact of the different boards is clearly visible in higher studies, let’s say I am from CBSE board the result of which I am average in English and Science and having a hard time in math. My Friend is from Bihar Board and he is excellent in Math and General Knowledge but very poor in English due to which Bihar produces IAS officer’s in bulk every year.
On ground level Student’s feel the pressure of Studies because of which thousand’s of student commit suicide everywhere and education has become profitable business and rather than seeking interest, students are forced to study what their parents believe is good for them. In India from a sample of 1 Lakh only 15 students opt for research and per capita expenditure on Research and Development is Rs.30,000/- in this aspect we are even behind Kenya and South Africa and if we talk about Patents we file around 17 Patents in the sample of 10,000 people, whereas China file around 540 Patents and South Korea around 4500 Patents and India only spend 2% of its GDP for education , thing to enquire is that, is it sufficient.
Well as they say everybody is a genius but if you judge a fish with its ability to climb a tree it will live his whole life believing he is stupid. These simple words should be understood by Indian parents and everyone should have right to study in their field of interest.
Former VC of Mahatma Gandhi University Said “The best in India will always be the best in the World when it comes to education” but the question is it because of Indian Education System or despite it.
